Could someone give me a hand regarding the strength of horse rugs? I'm after strong durable horse rugs for my extra playful gelding who keeps having his 600d ones ripped..obviously not strong enough. I know I need the highest denier possible but do I need ballistic? Teflon? Any help much appreciated.

I only tend to look for denier for strength. something no less than 1600 denier. I think teflon refers to the proofing?

The higher the denier the stronger they are. Rugs such as the Rambo Duo are made of ballistic nylon and is very strong.

I feel for you, it's a nightmare.

I was feeling very smug has my higher denier rugs were lasting better in our field of playful geldings than the others till I got down today to find he had broken a strap at the buckle. The actual metal had broken, god knows what they'd been doing.

Meanwhile mine has learned how to undo the velcro straps on neck covers for his friends. Roll on warm weather so they can go out naked though then I'll be cleaning more cuts.

To answer your question, my 1200 ballistic Taka has coped better but nothing is foolproof.

I have to say that my amigo 1200D has (fingers crossed) so far stood up very well on my playful rising 2 year old colts!!! But wouldn't consider a denier less than this. Having said that for some reason the weatherbeeta landa's (which only come in 600D) seem to stand up very well on other horses on our yard though???????
