What is your favourite horse rug brand? I have used weatherbeeta and found them okay but my youngster was terrible at the time for ripping rugs. Last winter i had a rhinegold and was the worst rug iv bought. Was trashed in a day. Then i bought an amigo and they are really good but vome up a bit short. And for a stable rug mast has to be my favourite.

Bucas turnout and stable rugs, Thermatex sweat rugs, Equenox summer sheet and Rambo fly/sweetitch rugs are my choices, they fit my horse beautifully and seem to last quite a few seasons.

Horseware for summer sheets and fly rugs (because they are well made and come in so many different types

), Fal for winter rugs (because they are very well made, seem to be deeper and wrap round tummies better to keep the cold out

) and Termatex for thermal / winter cooler rugs (because they wear so well and are so useful).

I was thinking of investing in a rambo rug this winter as iv heard they are good rugs and last a long time provided they are looked after. And would save me some money in the long run.

I didn't used to like Rambos but now I am a convert. My old pony managed to shred his green rambo into hankie sized bits, we kept finding the filling scattered round the field for weeks! Then when i first bought my horse he had a rambo that was one of the ones with the two clips and a ring fastening at the front and it pinched and rubbed him horribly, gve him huge lumps and sores there, so we cut the original fastening off and replaced it with buckle straps and eventually the sores healed and disappeared. HOWEVER I think the new Rambos are very well fitting as the horse I share (who is the same stamp as my old horse)has a wardrobe full of rambos and they fit very well, don't slip or rub at all.

I found the amigo turnout rug i had last year rubbed my mare's shoulders. But i suppose that could have been down to the fact she had huge shoulders. Also it seemed quite short and wasnt a deep fit.The rambo's are definately an worthy investment.

Hate:
*Rhinegold turnouts - dreadful, leak like a sieve. But dont mind their full neck stable rug!
*Masta turnouts - again leak like hell and once they have a small rip, it increases to a horrendous size!

Disappointed by:
*Rambo - I spent a fortune on a Rambo Duo and it was awful, the neck part was horrifically small that it was a bit tight on my very slim TB x and I couldnt even do it up round my welsh cobs neck. The attachment thus ended up ripping serveral times. The rug itself just didnt seem deep enough and was too tucked in at the back (again, even on my TB x who isnt big built at all). It also leaked round the neck and at the seam area round the bum. I ended up selling it after 3 months! Saying that, I do like a high neck Rhino I bought my pony.
*Amigo's - I loved my lightweight summer turnout to start with, last summer it was brilliant. However, at the beginning of this summer it suddenly went downhill - it began leaking badly and one rip on the neck underneath ended up tearing completely one night so the entire under layer was hanging out the back over my horses hind legs when I found him the next day!!

Love:
*Weatherbeeta's - All except the Landa which can leak. I've had Oricans, Arions and the latest is the Tristar which is excellent. They fit anything, are well designed and never leak.
*Thermatex - dry horse well and keep them cosier than a fleece.
*FAL - I've still got a FAL stable rug which must be about 12 years old now and its still going strong!

FAL turnout rugs, dual purpose so used in the stable as well as outdoors. Thermatex for drying off a wet horse and for travelling in winter.

Ditto Weatherbeata I have 2 stable rugs that have done 10 winters. I totally agree re Masta they dont fit around the neck and I would never buy one again as their Customer service is rubbish.
