having read countless articles about Welsh Sec A.'s going for pittance to the meat man recently, I have decided to buy a few..(Had to do a lot of persuading of OH :D) I've heard of a lot of people buying them for next to nothing at sales, but I don't know of any in the area, so, does anyone know of Horse Sales, likely to have these Welsh A.'s in the area? Thaank you :D

Halls have a sale in Shrewsbury, about once a month, not sure what goes through there though. There is Beeston just over the border in Cheshrie, they have a sale every Wednesday (not the first in the month), they often have welsh yougnsters there. There are also sales a bit further afield at Leominster and Brecon. Are you looking for stuff with papers or just looking to give them a good home?

There's too many welsh section A's nowadays. I was fortunate to end up with an incredible little filly (now 3) and just backed. She's as laid back as they come and will try her little heart out. Having brought her on from a complete nervous wreck of a yearling. She came from Beeston up near Cheshire, straight off the meat mans lorry for next to nothing.
If you're lucky and get one like her it's worth going and buying a handful, but the majority of the section a's at these markets are as wild as anything and take alot of time and effort, then there's all the money into the care etc. if you're looking to make a profit then it won't be an incredibly big one with an average section a. Even the good ones sell for next to nothing!
Like Murphy's Minder - I don't know what goes through Shrewsbury auction - wasn't a great deal at the last one. The section A's are usually in the sales closer to north wales etc.
Conveniently enough i'm in Shrewsbury too!
Good luck with the search but seriously consider if they're worth it - it's sad but there really is so many it's hard to find good caring homes once you've brought them on. Unless of course you're going to keep them all forever :)

What do you want them for? Not being nosy :) it is just that I know of an old mare looking for a home :(
She is currently sitting at a dealers waiting to go to slaughter.
Ugh.

I just hate the thought of horses going to slaughter because no one wants them..and no it's not for profit, and do plan on keeping them! I'll go to a few sales and see what I can "rescue", thanksss xx
