there's a flat bit of ground in my field which is about 15m x 40m and i'm going to try and make it into a schooling area. there's grass on it currently and i do still want it to look like grass but, as we are on clay, it would be nice if it was a little softer...has anyone else done anything similar and do you have any ideas what i could use?

i have never done this but i know people who have. they have simply put sand on top, and not alot of it but just a bit to give it a slight spring and a bit more grip in rainy weather.

i dont know if its good or bad but my friends like it

i hoped that would be someone's response...a little bit of spring would be great as it's for flat schooling not jumping. I don't suppose you know what type of sand do you?

I use play pit sand as its non toxic, got it from derbyshire aggergates but most places stock it. it is also bigger grains.
Works ok but can get sloppy when very wet.
