I'm trying to help a couple of friends who are looking for a new pony/horse. Both want safe, allrounder types and neither want anything under 6 years old. Neither want to by unseen. This is where we are looking currently:

H&H
Horsequest
Horsemart
Preloved
Dragon Driving (with caution)
Ponyclub website
Facebook
Freeads
Word of mouth via friends, instructors, farriers etc

Am I missing any?

If anyone has any recommendations for dealers in the South East/Midlands please let me know.

NFED, Right Horse Right Home, pets4homes, and occasionally there's something on gumtree.

What height/age/etc are you looking for? I'm always happy to get an excuse to spend even more time looking at horse ads.

As for dealers, I've heard good things about Springbank Farm Kent but can't personally vouch for them.

Thanks Stangs I'll add those to the list. It's a long time since I bought a horse so I'm a bit out of practice.

Looking for a very safe, sane all rounder for an experienced, capable but nervous rider. Ideally able to do low level dressage. Honest to a jump 80/90cm. Hack alone and in company. Not strong etc etc.
  • Geldings only
  • 14.3hh to 15.3hh
  • 6-10 years old
  • Up to £10k
I realise this is the perfect all rounder that everyone is looking for :)

your friends will need to be very quick to view and arrange vetting as the safe low level all rounders are not very common, especially now. i would suggest that your friends look at older horses as well , 6 to 10 is a horse in the prime of life and will be much more popular but if your friend is nervous an older horse is likely to be steadier.

i am older and had horses for over 50 years and window shopping earlier i found these ones that i would be interested in (if i had the money!!)
264289 11 yrs, 263664 13yrs, 263695 14yrs, 262426 11 yrs, all on horsequest.....its very important not to overhorse yourself ,and better to have something safe

Thanks Splashgirl. I agree with what you're saying. I think she may go up to 12 but no older. Everything she is calling about is sold already :(

Best bet is to ask local Instructors, Pony Club, Riding Cluvs, Farriers, Vets and Feed Merchants and see if you can find alocal one where it's history is known.

Yes that would be perfect. We're in Herts so if you happen to know of something please contact me. :)

if you are helping her you just need to make her realise that when you get the horse home many of them change a bit and can be livelier. i cant count the number of distressed threads on here where people have bought the horse they WANT and not the horse they NEED at this stage in their riding career...and most of them end badly....

stangs, the rider is nervous and is a novice rider, the only one which might be ok is the first one, the others are likely to be too much for a nervous person. thats why its such a difficult search....
