Barry seems to kick his leg up if I touch him here? Doesn’t on the other side..is this a problem or is he just ticklish and telling me to **** off

Gosh, did you really just walk up and do that? No wonder he lifted a leg! What would happen if you went to his head and then quietly moved towards his hind end and touched him, so he had some warning? Might he seem less "sensitive"?

He did the same thing
Had the farrier out and he is stiff in his back legs thinks he fell messing around in the field

Why on earth did you go up behind a new horse out grazing and grope him near his stifle? That is a notoriously tickly spot on many horses. Frankly you deserved to be kicked into the middle of next week . He was a saint not to boot you.

Re the problems lifting up his hind legs - did you get him vetted before you bought him?

Crikey, mine is a friendly and placid soul, but I would not approach him in the field and do that!

I would say your new horse has a good temperament.

I can't remember how old your new horse is, but they often need educating to pick up their feet and be touched everywhere if they are young and have been produced for sale.

Mine took 6 months before he was happy with a willy wash and a cold hose (even in warm weather). He was always mannerly but was uncomfortable with someone being so up close and personal.

ETA- the cold hose was not for his willy! He is a grey and, when the weather is warm, I will wash in warm soapy water and rinse with the hose! Willies are always warm water!

Basically for full story I’ve been grooming him all week and he’s never been sensitive or annoyed at me touching him anywhere but for past two days he’s been weird about lifting his back legs (farrier suggested the fall)
And how is sensitive just on that one side of this body no reaction on the other
I’ve been suggested possible ulcers?
He’s also been 2 stage vetted no problems to be seen in that
He’s an ex race horse 5 years old so should have no problems with farrier or picking up feet but very problematic for farrier and just seems generally weird compared to how he was so chill
I never knew it was a sensitive place for horses as my mare doesn’t care where you touch her and Barry only started being sensitive on one side the last two days.
Was brushing all over him prior and no reaction

Getting the physio out to look at him before I ride him
Does anyone have any supplements they use to check for ulcers/help ulcers?
