I'm new to this forum so hello everyone!

I was just wondering if anyone had any horse sharing experiences, good or bad?

I share my horse and have done for some time. I know there are a lot of pitfalls that for the owner wishing to share and indeed, the sharer, wishing to share.

If anyone has any stories or experiences, I'd be glad to hear them.

Thanks

Good to meet you Gentle Warrior.

I have a 14.2 tri-coloured Section D Cross, aged 12, who I've had for six years. I live in Blackpool, Lancashire and I am a PA to an Executive Director of Blackpool Council. My name is Rachel and I'm 37.

I have a sharer who does three days a week and contributes towards his keep as he is a full livery horse.

Hi and welcome Fruddy,

I bought my own horse last Autumn but prior to that I shared a horse with another lady. She actually owned the horse (and didn't want to sell her, even though I would have bought her at the drop of a hat!) and I used to ride 3 days a week and do stable chores on those days as well. I paid three sevenths of the horse's upkeep i.e. livery bills, feed, shoeing, dentistry etc.

We both had lessons every two weeks with the same instructor. I should point out that they were alternate weeks before someone gets the weird picture of me and my friend both sat on the horse having a lesson! We had similar riding styles and were both as good (or bad as each other). We also got on very well and I can honestly say that we had no problems in the entire 6 years of sharing.

The only reason I no longer share is because I moved house and now live too far away. I have also changed my job and can ride every day which I couldn't when I shared so 3 days a week suited me fine then. Sorry this is a bit long!

I have had 2 great sharers in the past and since moving to a new place have unfortunatley struggled to find a reliable sharer. This is despite not asking for a financial contribution and the horse being on full livery so no stable chores. Its a really well behaved easy horse so basically I offer to a keen person free riding and time to spend with a horse (and come to shows with me if they want) in return for cleaning tack twice a week and being reliable!

I had one girl give up after 7 weeks because I think she wanted to be given a horse to jump and take to shows (and I dont offer that as I compete myself) and another who is unreliable and doesnt turn up when she's supposed to, and worse still, doesnt tell me she isnt going to turn up. Its very disheartning. Both of them made the excuse of being too busy at work but it was only 2 days a week and I work too and the horse is on FULL LIVERY!

I've recently advertised again and the only responses I've had so far have both made references to a lfull oan not a share, they obviuously didnt even read the advert properly! Perhaps this is the clue, round here they seem to be looking for someone to GIVE them a perfect horse for nothing and a mere share isnt good enough.
