A friend is looking for a new horse. She's had a really rough time looking. Most recently a seller took half the price of the horse, insisted my friend pick him up ASAP before she changed her mind as selling him was so difficult, then, once my friend had organised to have a day off mid-week, signed a contract on a livery yard, bought matting for her stable, got everything ready for the horse to go into it when he arrived and taken her trailer home ready to leave at 5.30am to pick him up, texted her at 9pm to say she'd changed her mind - not because she couldn't let him go but because (I'm paraphrasing but it wasn't much better) my friend was a crap rider and too fat (for clarity, neither is true and the word used was fat not heavy). She has at least returned the money.

Anyway, the best way for me to help her out of the funk she find herself in is to find her a new horse or at least get her a list of horses to view. For those of you who have read my gushing posts about Wiggy, she's looking for a slightly smaller version of him. For those who don't know him, 15.2-16hh, saint of a gelding (as will live on a geldings only yard) who is safe but not boring for hacking, riding club and fun rides. Friend is approx 12st so nothing too lightweight but (in case the above has raised questions) she really doesn't need a big lump of a weight carrier. Budget is 10k max and preferably within 2 hrs of Cardiff. Age (upwards) less important than a lovely kind and calm temperament but no younger than 7 unless he's exceptionally good for his age.

There doesn't seem to be much suitable out there at the moment but I have faith in your horse-hunting skills!

ETA - horse in question was a 15.3 well built cob in case anyone was concerned my friend was trying to buy a 14hh spindly thing!

I've got a friend selling a 6yo Irish Sports Horse, never met him but I know the family selling and would vouch for them. They put a lot into his education but its the usual story of daughter heading off to Uni soon.

He's in Manchester/ Cheshire area though so possibly a little too far away? Let me know if you want me to PM some details.

Thank you. I think that might be too far, but if he seemed perfect (at 6 he'd have to be as she doesn't really want younger than 7, ideally 8) she might. The issue she has now is she's lost confidence in knowing what is suitable for her as she really liked this horse and then got told she wasn't good enough for him so she will want to take her instructor with her and will have to pay for their time plus they're very busy at weekends when she can go so the less time travelling the better. If you could PM me that would be great.

Yes, I'm already a member from when I was looking but haven't seen much coming from her recently - maybe I need to give the algorithm a nudge!
As soon as you start looking you will see nothing but horses for sale. YOu learn all the scammers, the dodgy dealers and the ones that have been for sale for a while (can you tell I have had enough now!!)

I've been there (twice in the last 5 years) which is probably why I'm so keen to help my friend as I know how hard it is.
