Hi HHers,
Just had a prospective horse fail a vetting so my search goes on.

Looking for a gelding for my husband. He’s 6’3”. Probably not a TB unless it has a lot of bone. I would like to be able to ride/ compete it too so nothing bigger than 17hh We are in our 50’s so no projects. Ideally 7-12 years. Must be safe, sane and sensible. Good to hack, pleasure ride and hunt. Grassroots dressage, showjumping, xc and eventing. Good to load, shoe, catch etc. An allround good egg. Probably the type no one wants to sell!
Healthy budget and will be kept at home with 4 other geldings.

Anyone know of anything suitable please or can recommend someone who might have.

Based East Midlands

Thanks.

I'll message you. I know of a TB but he's the most unTB TB I've ever seen. He's a right chunk and currently owned and ridden by a 6' man.

ETA his current owner is in his 60s so he's already doing what you want him to do for the same sort of person.

I have seen one.
A ride & drive Suffolk gelding, advertised on Suffolk Horse Hub on Facebook. He's safe and sensible but his showing options are limited because his maternal grandsire is an American Suffolk so breeding not recognised by the Suffolk Horse Society.

Is Belsay Northumberland too far? Jack-Thomas Watson.

(If you ring him, there are usually others that aren't listed on FB.)

Yes, Jack-Thomas has been mentioned a lot as a good man to go to but yes, it’s a long way

They are hens teeth! I have an absolute super star 4 year old that will become exactly what you describe but needs mileage. It’s not just the budget, it’s finding the buggers 🤣. I think you need to write a list of your absolute MUST haves and the bits you can compromise on just to widen your search.

My 4 year old was meant to be sold last year but I just wanted another year with him, which may turn into another and another 🤣.

I agree. It seems the bigger the budget , the more complicated the horses. They become professional rides. Good luck with your 4 year old. I'll be along in a few years when he/she has been fully crash tested. 😁

It gets so expensive with the vettings too as I imagine you need X-rays etc as well. Some yards do vettings and X-rays etc as standard, I’d still do my own but at least it gives you an idea.

I hope you’ll be sorted way before the time he’s crash tested, I intend to be extremely thorough 🤣🤣🤣.
