Are there any people on here how horse sit that can advice me on what to charge. Or at least give me a rough idea.

I have been ask to help look after a horse for somebody. It would be for a long weekend Friday to Monday and while they are on holiday.

what should i charge for:
1. mucking out.
2. mucking out & riding for 1 hr.
3. riding for 1hr.
4. just going to check up on them.
5. bringing in at night.

Should a charge by the day or by the week / weekend. Please i need help and advice what to charge as i have no idea.

Nothing, and ask them to do the same for you when you are away?

agree if its for a friend if not charge 15 for long weekend.

I would normally charge between £15-20 p/d (not including riding)

But the 'proffesional' one here charges £25 per horse per day, and it isn't a great service from what I heard.

I would work out how long its going to take you each day, and then base that on an hourly rate?

For example, I pay someone £5 to muck out and turn out, which probably takes her 30 mins to do...

Are you at the yard already? If not, do you need to make a special journey to see to this other horse? In which case, take in mind the travelling time, plus fuel? I would probably say around £15 a day, then charge a tenner for riding...

They are not friends of mine but friends of a friend. They need somebody to look after their horse when they go away and i was recommended to them. Can't say no as i need the money at the moment (like most of us).

Ooops, sorry Sarah, got the wrong end of the stick.

Our yard charges £8 per day full livery but that doesn't include grooming or exercising so you'd need to charge more for that. Some people who ride at our yard charge between £7 and £10 for riding, depending on how long and whether scholing or hacking. Also, calculate your travel at something like 45p per mile minimum with fuel the price that it is, plus wear and tear etc.
