A few months ago, but some stroke of luck/fluke I helped in the recovery of a horse that had been noted on here as being stolen (sold) whilst it was on loan.

I am very happy to have been told today that not only was the horse recovered and returned to the owner but that the person who was responsible for stealing the horse has been charged.

Nice to hear that sometimes people do get caught and are held accountable!

Also shows that posting about stolen horses on this site can and does work!

I am very grateful for every once of help that people gave (esp my crime fighting partner of LadyT) in getting a very happy ending to this story.

I hope this sends out the message that Police will deal with these people robustly & that the huge horsey community can rally together & reunite owners with their horses.

Well done. Its nice when you find them again.

My friend had a pony sold whilst it was out on loan. A lovely little section A gelding. After a rather extensive search we located the pony, however he is in such a nice home being pampered by lots of little kids that we decided to leave him there on the promise that if they ever wanted to sell him we would buy him back from them.
Police just didnt want to know unfortunately

Post everywhere that is my suggestion - I just happened upon this horse as I read the name on here, out a horse on cover (I insure horses) and thought the name was familiar (although it had been changed slightly). The horse had been sold with it's passport so that did help and the details matched.

Maybe contact insurance companies let them know details - you never know, someone could have bought the horses in good faith and insure them as normal. We also did have one that we were about to insure bu the new owner had the vet check it, he checked for microchip and discovered it was stolen. Microchipping does help! Personally I think all vets carrying out a vetting should have to check for a microchip and that ALL horses should be chipped. It could make things a lot easier.
