I’ve recently bought a horse flew through 5 stage vet with x rays.
2 months in I’m noticing little signs of discomfort.
Reluctant to get on lorry, reluctant to be tacked up and to leave stable when tacked up, he’s dropped weight but he also has started standing with his hindquarters on his banks. I did notice that his left hind hoof was quite hot the other day so when I rode I only walked in the school. It was cold after working him.

I do have the vet coming next week but the anxiety whilst waiting is tough.

I have seen horses with suspensory pain stand on banks this way. I think it’s quite a common symptom.
Yes, and mine used to stand with his back legs under him with his quarters hard against a wall. If it's bilateral it's hard to pick up even for a vet. I knew something was wrong with mine but he trotted up sound and only looked lame when one leg was blocked.

My coblet does this sporadically also. He’s 11 weeks post surgery on his hind annular ligaments and does it to take the weight off his left leg in particular. Got the vet coming back out this week as I think he’s still far more sore than expected at this stage. I’m sure the vet will be able to diagnose the issue.

Could be so many different things in the back end but mine has/had bilateral annular ligament desmitis.
Thickening of the ligament causing inflammation (pain/soreness) in associated soft tissues.

Similar to yours in that…
- standing in banks
- stretching the most affected back leg out very dramatically when led away from the banks
- reluctant to go up the ramp
- reluctant to be lead out of stable after a stretch.
- resting the most affected leg the majority of the time when stood still.

No heat in hooves.
Trotted up sound as was affected bilaterally and worse on a soft surface.

It’s awful waiting :( fingers crossed x
