Hi, I was wondering if any of you have any thoughts on this. In March 2016 my horse had a successful tie back op with lasering. Everything has been great with no real problems, until 3 weeks ago. My horse was treated for impaction colic and the vet tubed him twice. The second time he did it my horse suffered a massive nosebleed. The colic subsided and normal eating etc , then 3 days later when I arrived at his stable in the morning my horse had suffered a nose bleed, not a lot mostly a few drops over the door and a large glob on the wall. I presume it had come from his nose but he could quite easily of coughed it up, there was no evidence on him as to which, I have started riding him again and he is great, keen to go, loads of energy, but makes a chuffing sound with his breathing even in walk. I spoke to my vet about it and asked could he of damaged him at all while inserting the tube, he was adamant that this would not of happened and advised an endascope to investigate. I feel a little reluctant at the moment to do this as he has had enough trauma in his life recently. Does anyone have any experience of this happening to there horse. Everything else temp, bloods, respiratory and pulse all normal. Any ideas?

I doubt the tubing will have damaged the wind op. I also wouldn't worry about the nose bleeds, most horses will bleed when having a socking great tube shoved down them. Blood a few days later is normal too. I would be more worried that there is inflammation in his pipes where the tube went down. I would do the scope as it will show you exactly what is going on down there. It is less invasive that a tube as it is smaller. But your horse will probably still have a nosebleed that day or a day or two later due to the previous damage. It's just one of those things.

Feel for you, one thing after another sometimes.

I would go for a scope too, because if it is inflammation or infection it could potentially be easily cleared up. I am, however, one of these people would rather know than not.

Apart from the noise how is his exercise tolerance? If he has enough "go" and is getting fitter and performing as usual then I might leave the scope for a bit and see how he gets on.

He feels and looks great. I took it easy for a few days but he's working in his usual way and happy to go. Yes your right it does seem to be one thing after another just lately and I really do feel so sorry for him as he has been so tolerant with everything.
