I was pretty sure he'd gotten over that phase... apparently not.

Tonight danny worked really nicely for ages, walk, trot, canter - even slightly stood up in my stirrups to let him really go forward, which is often a no go as he thinks it's time to run away like a crazy fool. All good. Did some more canter work. Still good.
Going down the longside - he decides to run off. Didn't go too far and came back, continued working. Fine.
2 other people came into the school.
Was doing some work in sitting trot, and attempting leg yield. We were getting there!
Did some more cantering... asked for a canter transition on the long side.... off he went again! Pretty much straight into the rear end of one of the other two horses who thankfully didn't freak out or kick.
Carried on working as if it didn't happen..... started doing some medium trot and then collecting the trot, few serpentines etc and then I don't even remember what happened but we were suddenly heading towards the fence at a zillion mph and I though 'bail out or stay on??' made the decision to try stay glued on, got about a foot away from the fence and then went between the fence and the other horse in the arena and pulled up. Eventually.
Then just stood there making my apologies to the other two people and chatting for a few mins while I 'recovered' and then walked him round a few times and came out :( Hate the risk that he might run into another horse/cause someones horse to bolt with him or something.

tbh, when I ride on my own it doesn't scare me or put me off. It's just when I ride with other people and then I worry about what he might cause their horses to do - plus the fact that he actually AIMS for the back of horses and one of these days, he's going to meet somethings hind feet (tbh, I don't think it would be a bad thing!)

I'm fairly sure it's not a pain thing. He's never done it in the indoor schools that I can remember, it usually happens in the large outdoor school, and more often when there are other horses around I think. I think if anything, it might be a confidence issue?? When I first got him, he used to panic when another horse left the arena (even if there were other horses in there) and that could sometimes lead to him bolting or just becoming very tense. He stopped doing this though.
Not sure how to go about it if it is a confidence thing though? :/ Basically, just thoroughly confused. He's such a sweet little horse and he's really been improving in the last few weeks :( He just seems prone to very random behaviour!

Double choc cookies for everyone who got through that!

My mare is the same she does it after about 15 mins schooling its her way of saying ive had enough she is worst when other horses are about. I just work her through it with lots of circles.
