A horse has been stolen in Bletchington today. The thief drove to a large yard in Heathfield village and asked for 1 night grazing. The owner of the horse drove into the yard, presumably visiting other yards to tell people, and the thief sped off.

Red 4x4 but no make or model details.

Do you mean the thief had the stolen horse on a trailer and the owner drove in to the yard, so the thief sped off with the trailer? If so, why didn't they chase him? Yu can't g that fast with a trailer.

I am so confused

The horse was in the 4X4??
Or the theif tried to livery a stolen horse? Or..??

I think the unfortunate time has come that we should not believe anyone who says a horse has been stolen without a crime number and/or a link to a stolen horse website. Or of course if it was their own horse. I don't know what to believe anymore.

As far as I am aware, the alleged theif drove onto the yard at heathfield asking for grazing for 1 horse for 2 nights. He said that he had the horse in the trailer. As the girl on the yard went to find the owners, another local yard owner drove onto the yard alleging that he had either stolen or tried to steal a horse from his yard in Bletchingdon, Oxfordshire. At the point, the thief took to his heals and ran to his car and sped off. The registration was taken and the police were informed.

Right, so you DO NOT know that a horse was stolen then. PLEASE do not post information you do not know is 100% accurate and correct. I have contacted a fellow forum member who is a member of the police in this area and she will, when she gets the message, be able to confirm the details should they be correct.

So, if this story is true, the person who's horse it is a) didn't just try to unload their horse off the trailer b) didn't try to stop the trailer leaving the yard and c) didn't give chase? You can't go that fast wth a trailer on the back or manouvere as well as a car without one so how on earth are they supposed to have gotten away?

Firstly, it was not me that posted that a horse had actually been stolen and secondly, it is best that owners are made aware of the actions of unscruplous people who are intent on stealing horses so that necessary precausions can be taken. The agressive nature in which some people behave on here is unnecessary and uncalled for. I keep my horse where this happened so am aware of what did or did not happen. Before anyone realised what the man was up to he was in his car (4X4) and gone. It was only then that another yard owner arrived to warn us but it was too late, the man had already left.

Your story is changing all the time...

Sorry but I am confused. And yes, man with horse trailer is easy to follow, wouldn't have taken anyone a minute to jump in a car and take chase!

Not meaning to come across as aggressive, it's just people on here are geting wary of 'stolen horse' posts since the texts ones started. But you said:

So did the thief leave before or after the YO arrived alleging the theft? I still fail to see how he could speed off with a trailer on the back and get away from somone without one if he turned on his heels when the YO turned up. I'm just a bit confused, is all.

So, the real story. A man arrived at the yard with some cock and bull story about wanting livery, he did not have a horse with him. Somebody went to enquire for him, and when they returned he said he was no longer interested and left. Absolutely no suggestion that he was after a horse, and given similar incidents in the area was probably looking for tack or a quad to steal

The vehicle is a red Ford Maverick, the number was taken.
