So several weeks ago I posted the following thread:

http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=616162

To cut a long story short our new horse had stood on a nail, puncturing the bursa tendon and chipping her pedal bone. They gave her a 50:50 chance of surviving.

You guys were all brilliant, giving me lots of stories and idea that kept me pushing my OH and his Mum that she was going to be ok.

8 days later, Charlotte came home :) We still have a long road ahead of us, but incredibly she is sound. The vets are amazed and I quietly have my fingers crossed for a successful 100% recovery.

Sadly, two days after she arrived home we lost our other horse. Luna was an ex-racehorse turned polocrosse star. She was number 1 ROR in the country, and playing at B Grade. We have no idea what happened, but she was pottering around in our front garden (as all the horses have done for years) and we found her with a broken leg. I turned my back for 2 minutes and heard nothing, turned back and it was obvious. It was a very nasty break and they were the longest 20 minutes of my life waiting for the vet. Even now I find it very, very hard to talk about it and I'm not sure I will ever get over seeing a horse like that.

RIP Luna... miss you loads xxx

I remember your original post and I am so very sad to read this update . . . Luna is a very beautiful girl and your heart must be so broken. Very sorry.

Thanks everyone. We were on such a high that Charlotte had survived that it was a massive smack in the face to loose Luna.

I've just been and got Charlotte in from the field as she is currently turned out in a restricted paddock in the day with plastic pads on her feet and she's looking very well.

Having found my first pony with a compound fracture to his hind cannon and splint bone I know exactly how you feel :( thoughts are with you, RIP xxxx

Very sorry to hear that, what a lovely mare she looked.

All the best with you're other horses recovery.

Can't imagine how emotionally drained you must be feeling, try and keep your chin up, these horses are testing creatures but some how we get through it.

Thanks everyone. It happened 4 weeks tomorrow and not a day goes by when we don't miss her.

I know nobody will see it on here, but we're also so grateful to the lovely, lovely people who have lent my OH horse's to play/train on since it happened. Polocrosse really has the nicest bunch of people :)

OMG I am so sorry for you sudden and unexpected loss of Luna. A tragic and unexplained accident. So unfair. ((((Hugs)))))
