My neddy managed to loosen his shoe over night and pull it sideways so the clip has gone into his hoof wall/foot.

I loosened the shoe further and took it off. But I know the likelyhood is he will have bruised his foot.

What can I do to help the situation? Cold hose? Warm salty water bucket?

He will be off work now until Tuesday. He stays out 24/7.

My mare did exactly the same thing, gave me a flippin heart attack in the morning as she was standing on 3 legs!
I took the shoe off whereupon she was immediatly sound, I hot pulticed it for 2 days to make sure, wrapping the poultice up with tape and turning her out as per usual. She was still perfectly sound after 2 days with nothing on the poultice so I got the farrier back out and he banged the shoe back on and voila!

Thats good news, I hope he'll be Ok as it must've hurt like hell - feel guilty fir him walking from field to yard now

he's a very tough type so fingers crossed - I havea half day on Weds to go riding lol so hopefully when farrier comes he'll be ok

might just bucket it to be sure though.

My horse did that once & was fine.

I think I'd clean the foot well, & look for any signs of pentration. If there isn't much sign I'd spray liberally with purple spray, but if there's obvious damage you could poultice it & cover it with a bag & duct tape before turning out.

You'd be surprised how tough a hoof really is! Bare in mind what terrain horses walk over, especially if you hack out alot! I would expect bruising, and maybe a bit foot sore (depending on each horse) but nothing more really! My mare just had half her hoof wall removed yesterday and filled with putty (see post "YAY! Farrier turned up) and bare in mind if she is hot shod she becomes foot sore, she was absolutely fine, not even slightly sore!

Keep it as clean and dry as you are able to. Is it right by the white line? It happened to one of our old ponies, he took a few weeks to come right, but time and tlc was all it took.

Great news. Fingers crossed - i did think it might be ok - because he puts all his weight on stony ground etc when hacking (albeit not the same place for 12hours)- and he isnt shod behind because his feet are so good.

one of ours did that and ended up with an abscess which took a couple of weeks to get rid of. I would poultice it for a couple of days if there is a hole in his foot just to be on the safe side.

Mine did it and the farrier pared out the hole to let the air at it, because the danger with those kind of holes which are more like slits is they can trap dirt deep inside and cause an abcess. After he pared the hole out he packed it with iodine soaked cotton wool which stayed in place as it tucked under the shoe. It grew out quite quickly but you do need to remain vigilant.

My old mare did the same last year, the day I was due to move her to a new yard 2 hours away

My superstar farrier came out (it was a bank holiday), took it off and told me to poultice with just warm (I think salty) water for the journey and the til the next morning if she'd keep a poultice on. He then said try and wrap up the foot to prevent anything nasty getting in it until I could get another farrier out.
