horse stretching leg out to side

Have got a horse on loan that has done nothing and been in a field for two years, hasn't been treated great and has had a hard winter (only got her on loan Sunday!) , when I give her a bath or she has done any kind of exercise (walking under saddle, light lunge) she stretches her leg out to the side just kind of lifts it then puts it back down..

Spoke to the owner today about it and she said she has always done that..

Do you think she is stretching her leg to stretch muscles or do you think she has knot in her muscle , as she has absolutely no muscle on her bum

Would love any ideas! Thanks

Mine occasionly do this but not very often. The only horse I've seen doing it a lot had string halt
