So I've just bought my 1st horse a very handsome 5yo Irish sports horse who has a lovely calm temperament. I'm in the process of getting him settled in and the horse stabled next to him keeps stretching round and trying to bite him when his head is out of his stall. Does anyone know of anything I can attach to the external wall in between their stalls so she can't reach him?
The poor guy keeps trying to look over and make friends but she's not having any of it. Apparently she was the same with previous horses that have been in the same stall.

Get someone to rig up a board so she cannot see or reach him. It's a poor design to have stable doors next to each other.
The other horse should really be moved to a stable where she cannot reach her neighbour.
Be careful when bringing yours in and out of the stable a he may start to rush if he anticipates a bite, also he is at risk of injuring on the door frame/wall himself as he swings away from her trying to bite him.

Stable doors are usually next to each other - I'm not sure what wiggy means - but they should be sufficiently separated that a horse cannot reach their next door neighbour on their own - two horses might reach out and make faces at one another but not more.

Ah - sorry.. penny just dropped what Twiggy means. Stable doors are normally to the side of each box and all to the same side to maximise the distance. So if you have a box with a door to the right the next door box doors should also be to the right and not to the left or they are too close and horses can reach each other.

It is one thing for a mare to make faces at the new boy - some do. But if she is actually lunging out to bite she repesents a risk not only to you but to anyone else handling your horse. He may become unwilling to be tied up outside if she hassles him and may rush to get through the door if he things she'll bite. Hopefully they can't see each other once he's inside so she can't threaten him in his box.

Speeak to your YO. You - or ideally the mare - need to move boxes I'm afraid.

Neither can be moved unfortunately. There isn't any space on the yard and she has been like this with any horse put int he stall next to her, it's not personal to my guy. It is worse when people are fussing over him, I think its a bit of jealousy and attention seeking.

I was thinking of putting something up so she can't reach him but I can't find anything suitable for outside that already made up that I can just drill into the wall, I'm not very handy. Any ideas?

Plank of wood, attached to the wall via corner brace brackets so that it sticks out :)

Edit: MSPaint doodle to show what I mean.
