Horse suckling on his bit?

I used to have him in a eggbutt snaffle that wasn't stainless steel, so i'm guessing it was of a material that either tasted nice or was warmer than stainless, i am trying him in a stainless steel hanging cheek snaffle and everytime i put his bridle on he will suck on it constantly for a few minutes, he never did this with the other. Any suggestions?

If he only does it when you put the bridle on, what's the problem?? He may just be warming the metal up, depending on what its made of.

TBH what a horse does in the privacy of his own stable or when I'm not on top, I really couldn't care less. It's what he does when I ask him to perform that matters.
