Am bored at work and was just having a crafty peep at H&HO. Anyway I was just thinking that a lot of horse owners seem to have horses that arent quite what they want, maybe they are too lively, or not lively enough etc, etc. Anyway I wondered if a horse swap service might work. What do you think?

I think you would probably end up more like horse A goes to person B, horse B goes to person C and horse C goes to person A as I don't think there would be many cases where a straight swap would work.

I already did so!

It was on a loan basis though.

When I was little we swapped our safe, steady schoolmistress 13.2 who I had outgrown in ability for a whirlwind games and jumping pony who was just a little too much for her current owners young children. They bought her because they didn't want to let her pass them by!

Was a great solution and they ended up with both ponies as they bought mine from me in the end too. They had a home for life and I visited them yearly till they passed away of old age

Like a library?!?! Nice idea and it could be feasible but realistically I think it would be a nightmare what with insurance and finding out where your horse is etc. Also, you wouldn't really necessarily know the credibility of the person you were loaning to, so you may be waving goodbye to your horse

Also, you don't know how they treat them etc. V risky I feel.

We didn't know the family we swapped with, but she came on a personal recommendation from my PC instructor and we vetted the home etc.

Not sure if i would user a 'service' though. I think personal recommendations are safer somehow.

I would no more part with my boy than my husband. Thinking about it would anyone like to swap my husband?
