How often is this done, and where is the best place to look for people who would like to swap?

Or does anyone know of any decent dealers in the southeast that will part ex? :o

I bought my current horse Gerry on a part ex. I'd already seen a horse I liked with a local dealer but then the sale of my mare fell through. I rang her, told her I wasn't in a position to have Gerry and she offered to take Lil in part ex.

All worked well in the end.

Can't help wth dealers in your area but I swopped my show hunter for a just backed 3 yr old 9 years ago. I took this route because he would have been very difficult to sell privately as he was an adults ride but only 14.2hh. I knew the dealer and she agreed that providing the new owners were happy she would pass on my details he ended up with a lovely home and one I probably couldn't have found for him from a private sale. I know some people have issues about sending a horse to a dealers but I buy from them and my horses want for nothing. You also have no guarantees that a private sale will result in a better home. Just my opinion :)

Yer the horse we have is TB which my friend brought, off a dealer coz she was perfect when she tried her, she still is perfect just everyone has filled my mates head with so much junk about TB's she wont even get on her now she is so worried. She is excitable and has a little jump around but nothing dangerous she's lovely my mate is just too nervous, bless her. There are dealers in our area but none have a very good name and the ones that do wil ot ake TB's She would be ideal for a cocky teenager she's got a pop on her and is for a novice just not as novice as my friend is :( its a sad situation. I only think swap because of a teenager going from ponys to horses she would be perfect for, any sites where people advertise swaps? xxx

there are lots of dealers that do swaps and part-ex deals esp in this current climate, it doesnt hurt to ask if you see something you like on a dealers ad, think you'd still be wise to check out dealers reputation though same as if it was a straight sale, i've recently bought my new horse and while i was looking i saw quite a few private ads where people were saying for sale or prepared to swap for whatever they were looking for, there is a website called horse exchange that has a category for swaps too, good luck:)
just a thought too, trawl the horses wanted ads on all the websites, you never know you might find a home for the tb that way, n.fed has quite a good wanted section

There was horseswap.co.uk but think its closed now, possibly other websites like it though? I part ex'ed my 13yr excitable tb with an old tendon injury for my 15.1 bombproof mare from a dealer my YO knew personally, so it can definatly be done!

Thats what we would love to do, that couldn't be more what she needs the dealers in the south are just so pricey and want more on top as well as the horse, do you mind if i ask where your dealer was? :)
