My horse is working quite hard at the moment and is getting very sweaty. He is washed off thoroughly after each ride, but has got bald patches forming where the reins sit on the sides of his neck, and round the edge of where the saddle cloth sits. I have put a numnah on his saddle now, as it is starting to look a bit sore in places. I have been trying sudo crem and aloe vera but none seem to help. I tried wrapping some soft bandage round his reins but couldn't get it to stay still. Have given him a good bath today, to get rid of some of the grease, and to try and stop him itching. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Has he shed his winter coat and summer one come in yet? It may just be his summer coat is slow to catch up, so many horses are patchy this year.

Perhaps with the reins you could grease his neck where they rub on it?
