My TB gelding has a habit of swinging his front legs to the left when he jumps rather than lifitng them straight up. He can lift them up if he gets close to the fence. I am of course working him over grids etc to try and improve his technique but am wondering if there is an underlying reason why he is doing it. Could there be something wrong internally? Any thoughts? Does anyone know of anywhere that studies the action of horses over jumps?
Thanks

What size are the jumps you are doing ? I know that my mare will do this action over anything to small for her, anything under 2ft6. She will do it over the most technical grids and will only jump 'properly' if the jumps are put up. We have come to accept that this is her and no amount of training/change in technique will change her, she even does it when a highly experienced event rider rides her.
