My TB gelding has a habit of swinging his front legs to the left when he jumps rather than lifitng them straight up. He can lift them up if he gets close to the fence. I am of course working him over grids etc to try and improve his technique but am wondering if there is an underlying reason why he is doing it. Could there be something wrong internally? Any thoughts? Does anyone know of anywhere that studies the action of horses over jumps?
Thanks

Is he very green jumping? If there is nothing wrong physically with him to make him do this I would suggest to contine with some grid work and perhaps try jumping with 'V' poles so that you can encourage him to pick up properly. I know my cob done this when he was a youngster and still very green and V Poles worked a treat.

Tink does this when she is trying, usually equals me clinging on. However she has a reason, she broke her withers, have you had his back checked?

my gelding does it only if i get him in too close to a show jump. He jumps normally otherwise.
But he does have a very minor twist in his leg that isn't noticable unless you really look.
