A year ago, my little 14.2hh pony passed away from old age. I owned him for along time, since i was 14 and took it very hard when he passed away, and I think i'm finally ready to get my tattoo to remember him by.

Has anyone any ideas of what I can get? I was thinking on a horse shoe wrapped with flowers or with a pair of angel wings or something but I'm just researching first (it will be a month or two before I get it done as I want to get the perfect design first) Or possibly a quote? His name was Rio if anyone wants to know :)

If anyone has any horsey tattoos please post photos of them :)

PS this isn't my first tattoo and I am obviously thinking long and hard before I get it, I just thought I'd ask for some ideas :)

I wanted to have a star on my foot with a K dangling off it for my horse! but I've never had a tattoo so I've not done it!

It it was me I'd have something simple, but I guess it depends what your other tattoos are like?

I had my mares head on my shoulder, it was done from a photo I had, it is very good, when she was pts last year, I had her date of birth and the date she went added at the bottom, I always say that she is always with me now, and will never regret having it, I owned my mare from 14 months old to 23 years of age, and she was my horse of a lifetime

I got this when my mare was put to sleep. You have to be very careful with portraits though as I've seen a lot of terrible ones. Pick the best artist you can find x

I had a horsey half-sleeve started when I bought my first horse. I gave the artist a base image to go on, then let him loose with the background. It always felt like it wasn't quite finished. When my gelding died, I had the tattoo reworked, so that it merged into three black roses at the bottom. To anybody else it looks like a pure design, though I'll always know what it means, and why it's there.

I love tattoos, but it's all a case of finding the right artist and putting the thought into the design.

Here mine located on my lower leg. A girl called leah gayton did it for me all free hand :)

I lost my boy last year and wanted a simple tattoo to remember him by, nothing fancy or too bold. I've got his name linked into the infinity symbol, luckily his name was of letters that could all be joined in script! I love it :-)

I wouldn't get a portrait tbh unless the tattooist was 100% amazing at portraits! (and who is??) but I think its a lovely idea. Like you I've also had my pony since 14, Hopefully I haven't jinxed anything getting a tribute tattoo for her as she's still very much alive!

What about designing something with items etc that remind you of your horse? Were there any nice flowers that grew in the field or something?

I like tattoos I have a few, horsey wise- I have a winged horse tattoo on back and my horses name above a scar I got falling off her lol, I intend to get a design around it later on.

I'm getting this done as an ankle bracer:

I asked permission of the artist of the capital to use and modify it as necessary to make it appropriate for tattooing

I would love a portrait of him but I don't think I'd ever get one as being honest, if it didn't look exactly like him Id just be disappointed!! My tattoo artist is amazing but it's a big ask to do an exact portrait so I think that ideas a no as much as I'd love it!

There was a big tree in the middle of his field that I used to sit under to study and he always came and stood over me. I also love nature so maybe a tree with a trail of leaves blowing off or something would be nice. I like tattoos with a secret meaning like that ;)
