i've been thinking of adding to my collection of tattoos with a horse one. my tattooist said he could do a really nice unique one of my horse. i've jst sent him a few photos to see what he comes up with. i only want the head and like a pencil drawing, not all coloured in. but i cant decided where to hve it. it'd only be small, few inches. i thought on my arm somewhere, either forearm near wrist, or top of arm. an ex bf, said tattoos on girls arms look (scuse the word, no insult meant) dikeish. but at least if its on the top of my arm, i hve the option to cover it up when needed. opinions pls!!! and any other ideas from people with horse tattoos!

dont get it on your arm lol, what about hip.back.thigh. ankle? i have two on the insides of my wrists, one on my back and one on my thigh (thats sounds awful ) but they are not tasteless ones and have meaning x i wear bangle and watch if iwant to cover up my wrists, but if you get one on your arm they are harder to cver up, hope you get a good one xx

Dont like tats on girls arms so im with you ex on this, im not keen on ones on shoulders either.
I have one on my stomach/hip (the small writing/symbols in my sig) which looks good and is easy to cover. My others are on my lower back, thigh and wrist, all easily covered.
It really depends on the size and design, once you've got that you'll know were you want it :)

I have this - designed it myself:

ive got a few tattoos in various places and another in the planning stage.
my advice would be wherever you feel is right for you !! afterall its your skin to do with as you please its also your skin to regret where you put a tattoo by mistake.

if you think the top of your arm is where you want it then thats where it should be.

am i right in thinking your taking advice from an ex ??
erm its your ex for a reason ??? ( unless its your tattooist and then yeah i probably would take the advice)
having had lazer for a tattoo in the wrong place ---- think long and hard as lazer is a trillion times more painful than getting it done in the first place.

Put it where ever you want it, and make sure you want it!

I have a horse tattoo and love it, and im having another horse tattoo soon :o

Upper Arm tattoos are less common in women than men. However, it entirely depends on the individals style.
However tattoos on the wrists for women are one of the most common areas. :) ( in our studio anyway)
I personally wouldnt put any on my arms, but each to thier own. :) ( and know plenty of women who do)

I am pretty covered to be fair, both arms fully sleeved, bits on my back but they are really old and i want them covered, the back of my neck chest, feet, legs, stomach..... think thats all so far. Hubby is a tattooist and is just about to start a whole backpiece on me of a horse and a old school gypsy girl to cover the stuff i don't like. As regards the placement of your tattoo i would say have it where you want and certainly don't heed the words of an ex! so if you want it on your arm then have it there, i cover every single one of my tattoos for work (i teach) and unless i am actually friends with people from work not a single one of them realises i am tattooed so its totally possible to cover anything if you really want to.

Totally curious about this... why do you have tattoos done? I hope you don't mind me asking a numpty question, it's just never crossed my mind to have one and I'm interested! :)

I have 4 and I just chose another 4 designs, was lookng for one but couldnt decide so Im getting them all - one of them is a horse design which will be going on my shoulder, a Tibetan phrase down my spine, a small dragon on the top of my leg and an ankh on my right ankle :)

This is my horsey one

My mare had a stillborn foal at the beginning of May. The foal was very much planned and wanted, and was also the filly I had dreamed of. We called her Storm, and I am going to get the Japanese symbol for storm as a tattoo. At the moment, I am undecided whether to have it on the inside of my wrist, or on my ankle.

kate sturgess - tattoos are a bit addictive! once u get one, more will surely follow! they are body art, a way of expressing your individuality. same as body piercing or even jewellery and fashion, altho more permanent! the ones i hve all mean something to me, not jst meaningless pics i saw in the tattoo shop. i hve planned and thought about each one carefully, knowing that it is what i really want. they are a part of me, such as - i hve a pisces symbol and the chinese year or the rabbit symbol, which i am both. paw prints to be done soon, i hve always had animals and always will, i am a dog groomer by profession. a horse, well self explanatory!! i hve stars on my ankle, which i love. i used to always wear an ankle bracelet with stars on, so i got this done to be more permanent - i believe in the stars and horoscopes. and a heart and rose on my belly/hip, which was my first tattoo. i had it done not long after i split from my husband, or escaped i should say. it was the beginning of my independence, me being me again, not being controlled by him anymore.

i only go for small ones, but some of the big pieces are simply amazing. google for tattoo pics and u'll see what i mean. some of those people should be hung in a gallery!!!

thats my thoughts anyway.

Have it where you can see it, i can't see the point of them if they are somewhere you personally can't see it like on your back/shoulders. But also try and pick a spot that you can cover if need.
I always think just above the ankle is a nice spot or hip area...I'd love one on the inside of my arm but i'm too chicken!!!
Love them on others and jealous you can stand the pain!!!

its not painful, jst uncomfortable. if u've had children, then u'll know how to use breathing techniques for birth (and everyday after to remain sane!!!). if u want one, go for it!

I have one on my wrist, one on my hand, one on my foot, one on the back of my neck and one on my lower back. Personally I don't like tattoos on arms for women. I position mine thinking *when I am 60 I don't want them seen* - apart from the one on my hand, but that is for my late brother and it is a tiny star and I am happy for the world to see that one :)

No Kids...Husband, Horses and mad lab are enough!!!

Anyway, it's the pain thing that puts me off kids too...I'd be in the "Too Posh To Push" category!!! ;)

Good luck with the Tat and get a pic of it when you have had it done :D

wow is this your design??? = i would love this on the side of my trailer!!!!! lol

I have a horse on the top of my back (hurt quite a bit), which is great for wearing strappy tops, also a small (non horsey) one on the inside of my wrist (which hardly hurt at all). I have one planned for each foot and one planned for my ribs.

I too prefer areas that can be easily covered but shown off if you want.

i almost had a horse one done on my lower back... i didnt and am wanting a quote on the inside of my arm.

i think lower back but tbh i think some horse ones can look really tacky.... sorry!!

jack I too think a lot of horse tats can look really tacky, hence why I have never opted for one.

yeah i know. I wanted a quote as its really personal. preferably in a diff language, but so far havent found anyone who speaks anything other than english reliablely to have my skin imprinted forever lol!

yes, some of the "twee" ones can do, however some can be very dramatic!

This done by one of our artists - kaska
(not very girly mind you!)
