OK one day to go I have sent my comments in and to my local MP and here is his reply:

Hot off the press, my MP is earning his pennies!!!

Karyn,

Thanks for giving me sight of your submission to the consultation on a new independent body for animal health. I think you have made the right first step in submitting your views – if these consultations are to work they should be fully subscribed to and they should be publicised better in my view.

I have actually written to the minister on this matter for another constituent and now I am told we should await the governments feedback and response to the consultation.

I have seen consultations work and government plans be amended due to the publics response so that may well be the case this time also.

Mark

SO PLEASE HAVE A QUICK MOAN EVERYONE, if you don't want to comment on the proposals themselves please send a quick email to this address saying that the consultation is not wide enough on the equine side and that the majority of people affected have no idea this consultation has been going on and that you have been denied access to seminas!

This is the one for complaints about the consultation process
consultation.coordinator@defra.gsi.gov.uk;

And this is the one from comments on the proposed legislation
rcsharing@defra.gsi.gov.uk

Don't be complacent please , consultation closes tomorrow, it's not just £10.50 but complusory insurance and the likelyhood you will have to pay more is there is a disease outbreak, plus a £5k fine for not complying!!!

Karyn I would like to send and email but don't feel equipped to write a suitable response. Any chance you could give us a paragraph to send to each email? Might encourage more people to email if they have template to work from....

Sorry been out tonight at another fight for rights, which I will be asking for help on shortly, turning rapidly into Ken Livingston!!

All you need really say to the consultation email is that you feel that the consultation process where equines were concerned was far too limited and that therefore you were denied your proper say in the matter, as the list of consulters for equines was inadequate.

On the response matter, say that as you have only just found out that about it's existence, that you feel unable to respond to such a large document in a short time period but that you are opposed to horses being included within this scheme.

That is basically what they are asking is if horses should be included along with a whole load of other things such as how to charge and if everyone should be made to have compulsory insurance against infectious disease (which you are then taxed again on through premium tax.

Having scan read most of it it's yet another Quango, a whole new department being set up to take over a whole load of DEFRA's work. Again it is putting a huge administrative and cost burden on UK farmers and growers!
