Hello everyone,

I need to transport my boy from Hinckley (Leicestershire) to and from vet in Sileby approx 26 miles (one way). I have seen 'east midlands equine' and 'MJB' transport offer this service but I'd like to hear if anyone has used these personally. He travels happily in a lorry, but I'm a bit put off by 'shared' journeys as would like to limit the stress for him of other drop offs and pick ups. Also would like info about price ranges before I ask for a quote! Have also seen the findhorsetransport.org link and would be interested to know if anyone has gone through these also!
Meanwhile I shall continue to wish for my own box...
Thank you!

Have used East Midlands a few times. Fair price, very helpful and good with the horses. while he's very obliging, won't let you down, do tell him the appointment is earlier than it actually is.;)

I've used East Midlands, too. Reasonably priced, very helpful, accommodating and all, great with the horses and seems to genuinely like them. His time keeping leaves a bit to be desired, but it is a minor inconvenience rather than a problem :)

Just had a quote back (not from east midlands equine) for nearly £300 for the round trip! do people think is is reasonable, i wasnt expecting quite that much!

At those prices you'd be better off hiring a 3.5t box, most are £99 for a day, you just have to top up the fuel to the level it was when you collected it.
ETS: just found Staffordshire Horseboxes hire out, and do transport @ £1 per mile plus £10 per hour waiting time.

Wow so the price really is, as i suspected, extortionate! I emailed them back saying thanks but no thanks, and they asked if i was insured, and said that some insurance policies cover up to £500 for transport to and from vets...so i may be just very cynical here but perhaps this is how they get away with being so expensive! Typically my insurance doesnt cover transport costs but Im thinking that hiring a box is a more affordable option, thank you for suggesting it! cant believe i did not think of this!

Wow, that is £5.76 a mile, must be the Starship Enterprise.

I paid £230 non shared load from Truro to Bromsgrove. PC Horse Transport of Plymouth. Not in your area, but when he left me he went North for his next job, so may be worth contacting. Google him.
