Horse theives back on our yard again tonight (East Sussex) Nobody has slept for days, the police are always a little too late, this is getting crazy and they are getting so close, when do you think it will stop?

They've been in our area too

A good friend of mine has her horses at home in Scotter. She had been out with her horses in the stables until midnight, went out the next day at 8:00 a.m. and a plait appeared in one of the horses manes! It wasn't there when she left him at midnight as she had been grooming him!

The Police were as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike

So she has had £1,600's worth of CCTV linked up from her house to her stables!

When she was getting the CCTV installed, there was seen a lady hanging about in a green 4x4 at the bottom of her drive for 10 minutes watching. As she went to confront this person, she drove off

My friend was speaking to someone, from Haxey (45 minute drive from us), there was similar incidents of targeting, and a green 4x4 was seen with 4 men in it. The number plate matched!!!!

They said the Police had the opinion that the people they suspected in relation to their incident in Haxey, were travellers who were getting ready to steal horses and take over to Ireland.

My poor friend is at her wits end. In all honesty, her yard is 5 minutes away from us, so it's a massive concern

Wish you luck, hope nothing gets stolen xx

Its getting to the point where we have run out of options.
If it were kids being stolen they would have caught them a LONG time ago!!! Tonight is a nightmare! We are so exhausted and the police keep telling us our alarms might be faulty, but they are not, its men on our yard!!!
We have been out driving around looking for the trailer, the police said they were out in the area, we didn't see one car. I know the police are trying but its not helping. Our horses are under attack and I can't see how this is going to end unless they get caught really soon.

I can only sympathsise. I guess you need to make it as awkward as possible for the horses to be stolen. My friend parks her car against her 2 stable doors just to make it less appealing as an 'easy' target. There are padlocks with alarms which sound if they get tampered with, 110DB warning alarm (is that really loud?), it may just scare off the theives thinking they have made too much noise and brought attention to their antics? I know they go to extreme measures, and you can only do so much, but perhaps making things as awkward as possible may deter them??

Ideally the Police need to do a stake out and try catch them in the act.... hmmmmmm flying pigs springs to mind!!

ETA: Just googled it..... 110DB is similar noise level to a car horn.... so I imagine you would hear it at night if you were indoors with no TV on! xx

I've been thinking about you since your first post, it must be a total nightmare. I wonder why they are targetting your yard so persistantly? Is there a horse there that they particularly want do you think? Or some very valuable tack?

It does sound as though they are trying to wear you down...

Do you think it might be worth contacting a private security firm for advice (since the police are so useless in this case). Some firms offer night patrols, I don't know how much it costs but it would at least give you a break for a few nights, you must be absolutely shattered.

Always the same, plenty of police or officials to sit at the roadside to catch tax disc dodgers census surveys blah blah, but no one to sit in a car park or country lane to catch flytippers car thieves etc. pisses me off big time, if you have a number plate then the police should have an address, no address then must be travellers, the police know where travellers camp, shouldn't be that difficult to find agreen 4x4, and how will they get horses over to ireland without passports, oh of course, nobody checks for them, bloody waste of time and money

"Pedantic" Soooo agree!!! Im sorry but the police are a load of s***!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Green livery..I feel for you I really do is all I can say is buy sh** loads of padlocks and padlock everything, gates, stable doors everything, try and get those alarms, is there no way you could put a gate or something to the entrance to the yard or something?? That way they couldn't get a vehicle in. Its a joke having to sit up and watch your own horses. I know what Im like but Id ring the police that have been dealing with you have a huge go at them because what pedantic said about finding a green 4 X 4 is true, if they cant find an address then look where travellers stay, then say your going to the press. Just threaten them. I feel sorry for you but I really do hope things go ok for you and your horsies. x

Might be worth calling the police on 999 every time you hear a noise and say there is someone on your property and you are too scared to go out. This way the thieves would see the police around a lot (if they turn up).

Good luck i hope they get caught soon, i would pester the police they really are your only hope in getting this stopped.

There was two shetland ponies stolen from my area about four weeks ago.the man who owns them has a couple more and but they took two red & white mares and left the rest. the mares were in different stables and they ripped all the padlocks off everywhere.

There has been no trace of them the police were contacted and it was in our local papers at the time. The mans stables are on a main road in the local village.

I can find no record of these on Stolen Horse Register--so details will not have been circulated through Horsewatch www.stolenhorseregister.com

The owner needs to contact Horsewatch in his area with Crime number, pics etc

Hey lovely, you linked me to the facebook group the other day.
Really sorry to hear your having trouble YET AGAIN.
These people honestly make me sick.

If i was you i would drive down to the police station and DEMAND a patrol of the livery yard.
Also maybe hire a professional protection team just for one or two nights like another post suggested.
I'm looking online for you now
Take care sweetie x

Very true, the Police must have got some sort of information if they assume they are travellers.... perhaps that or they are pretending to pay an interest to keep the victims off their back!!!
crazy.gif
Only other thing is if false plates are being used, which I assume is highly likely. It's pants isn't it!! My friend was going to sleep in her car (what she parks across the stable doors), I said to her she was stupid, thieves would just end up hurting her

xx

Thanks guys! We have had a lot of help frm the police recently but these theives are getting serious! They saw us driving around last night and chased us, full beams on, driving right into the back of us, all the way home! Police turned up a few moments later. Our yard is pretty secure now, but we now know theives don't car about alarm systems! Ours has sounded about 6 times a night! Turnout is the big issued, we need to turn our horses out, they are all gettring colic and really really stressed being in so much, but we cant turn them out without sitting and watchung them!
Horse watch have been sending a lot of emails, which is great, but today I recieved this from them '' If we are not really lucky, some poor sole will have a horse stolen before Christmas', not exactly supportive!!! I feel like saying good bye to my boy every time I go to bed and givng up now!
There are loads of local horses in easy to access fields, but they want our horses!!! I wonder if its the bigger breeds they like :S Scary stuff! Really getting tired now!! Thanks for all your support, xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I would suggest that you find a security company that specialises in dealing with travellers and get them to look after your premises.

Also mark all your property with Smartwater as this will remain on the thieves indefinately. (It is coded with your post code so any items which are recovered or found in transit can be immediately identified). You can also put it accross your driveway and the vehicles will pick it up confirming that the vehicle was on your premises.

Sorry to hear about all the stress you guys are under (pays to live in the back if beyind sometimes!). If you ring 999 at any time, make sure they know who you are and part way through the call (preferably when you are speaking), hang up. Apparently the police will respond a little faster as there is a possibility of you having been attacked. OF course if your police are responding quickly anyway - this will be of no use to you.
Wishing I could help you all in some way. Good luck. Thoughts are with you.

If they are only targeting your yard and none of the other local yards when your yard has high security then do you think it is possible that it could be someone who has a personal vendetta against someone on your yard and is trying to intimidate and frighten you?

The only reason I am asking is that unless a horse is ultra valuable for some reason why go to all that effort and risk trying to go on to your yard which is secure and being watched when there are easier pickings. If it is big coloured cobs they are after then these are not uncommon.
