Just a warning to people in the North East in particular Consett/ Chopwell area.
Last week the police came to the farm to tell us that someone driving a recovery vehicle with a car on the back had parked next to the road side field, climbed over the fence and started taking pictures of our coloured cobs. They also said the witness saw the man trying to main plait - taken as anything as the horses didnt have any mane plaits and thieves would be stupid if not deranged to mark in this way, but the strange bloke in the field was not on. This weekend 3 miles up the road has brought a poor owner a call at 6 am to tell her 3 men were in her field. She arrived to find that her cob had been driven into a pen at the side of the field, together with another horse, and it's tail had been tied and there was a very long length of bailer mesh tied around the horses neck. The day before a white transit pick up with a blue cattle body had been seen parked next to the field which didnt belong to anyone in the area. Please keep an eye out if you have traditional cobs. This is not scare mongering or the usual "my horse has a gypsy plait", as I am well aware that unbrushed horses get wind knots! This is a serious alert as known horse thieves from outside the area have been seen at local drives.
