I have a lovely riding 6yo mare. She was broken at 4 by a trusted pro, then a bit with me and also a stint at another pro yard. She’s had a few long breaks for various reasons so not done much really for a 6yo.

Just for full background she was at the pro for sales livery but failed the vet on the lunge. I’ve since had my own vet and he says she is sound but doesn’t step through as well on one rein on the lunge. He he could be something or just how she is, but would keep an eye while bringing into work.

Anyway she seems absolutely fine, she looks even to me now on the lunge, tracks up evenly etc. Feels fine.

she generally works really nicely on the flat, natural (but young) outline. As she is getting more fit she is tending to throw her head up in upwards transitions and in walk, occasionally in trot. She does it less the more she is worked.

I *think* it’s just a freshness thing as she is quite forward and gets more forward as she gets fitter, but would hate to think it’s pain related. She has a plain cavasson anatomical snaffle bridle but and is sensitive.

saddle fine she could probably do with teeth checking, but once that’s done, how do you correct?

Check your riding - on upward transitions are you holding and restricting her movement? Work on asking for upward transitions on a loose rein
