The sweetest thing happened on our hack.

We all know horses communicate in the field etc but yesterday on a hack my Welshie communicated with my TBx!!

Out hacking in a group of four, we came to a very 'scarey' lock to cross! High sides forming a bridge, wooden floor and the sound of water rushing by. The TB took one look and decided it may well be too much to deal with. He is quite a novice horse in terms of hacking, and planted his feet.

My friend on my Welshie brought him up alongside and with a simple touch of their noses, the TB walked calmly forward across the bridge with the Welshie following behind.

Amazing!

I know it's a bit soppy, but it did bring a lump to my throat!

It's great how trusting they are of each other, isn't it?

I have a 4year old, first time mum who is doing her best but still doesn't quite get why she has to make sure the foal follows her and why it just doesn't stick to her tail. The colt got separated from young mum, ended up in another paddock, both running up and down (me thinking any second now one of them is going through the ropes) ... and what does great-granddam do ... actually 'growls' at mum, nips her in the but and then leads her into the other paddock to pick up her foal AND then takes them back into the pasture!!!
My husband and I were amazed and delighted by this 'lesson in being a mum' given by the 22 year old mare.

That is so sweet ColourFan, I can imagin you and husband were open mouthed when you saw what was happening. I just thought it was so cool as the Welshie is the boss in the field and the reassurance the TB needed was right there for him....ahhhhhh
