I was wondering if anyone who has been trying to trace a horse could suggest ways forward when the usual channels have proved to be unsuccessful.

I have contacted Farmkey but the owner details haven't been updated and have looked on the NED website but nothing came up. I know all horses should be passported, but the horse I'm trying to trace was sold 8-9 years ago; before passporting came in to play.

I'm really at a dead end so thought perhaps someone on here who's also tracing might be able to suggest other avenues to investigate.

Thanks!

I managed to trace a horse for a friend many years ago. I found him through a forum in the end. We had a very rough idea which part of the country he was in which think helped. I just posted on every single forum I could find! My next step was to put posters in tack shops but luckily we found him quite quickly.

Thanks for your replies. Jasmine 123 - I've posted the details on here before but here they are again and hopefully, someone might know something. Unfortunately, I don't have pics at hand (am not at home) but (hope this doesn't sound stupid) she bears a very striking resemblance to the horse Mel Gibson rode in Braveheart.

I know due to the time/age factor, she may well have passed on but I'd be really grateful of any information whatsoever, including ex-owners if she is no longer with us...

Here are the details:

Rosie:
16-16.2hh bay irish hunter mare. Her freezemark is 2X9C (saddle area).

I very regretfully had to sell her in September/October 2002 and she was bought by someone called Dean Mills, based in the Worcestershire area.

Rosie would be approx. 19 now. Rosie is bright bay, suffers from sweet itch and had a hogged mane. She has a star and 1 white sock.

I've also had no joy tracing a horse I sold, see this thread:-

http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=269647

He was also sold before passports were mandatory, but did go with a vac cert and a JMB cert. Despite these he must have been passported under a new name as the only record of him on NED is a comp record from when he was BSJA reg before I bought him. He may well be freeze marked or chipped now, but wasn't when I sold him.

I deeply regretted selling him because he did not go to the right home, it wasn't a bad one, just not the right one for him, because when I phoned the new owner six months after I sold him I was informed that I had sold her a dishonest, dirty stopper (he was not dishonest at all, but would stop if not ridden right, I am by no means the best rider in the world, but fifty percent of the rosettes we won together were red ones) and as far as I could tell, she never really got it together with him. She sold him on four years ago and I asked my Dad to go and buy him back for me, but when he phoned the horse had already gone. :(

He would also be 19 now and I would love to know how he is and would buy him back if possible and give him a good retirement.
