Horse Trailer Hitching Mirrors - My opinion
I hope readers find my overall experience of interest and of use. I have an Ifor Williams 510 Horse Trailer and it was only last September that I decided to take the plunge and try a Hitching Mirror. I researched the web and found that there were only two main suppliers of them and in the end after speaking to both companies I opted to buy the one marketed as the i4eye Hitching Mirror. I opted for this one as it was bigger than the other and it is fixed to your trailer by just drilling one single hole.
The mirror arrived on time and was well wrapped in bubble wrap which was an issue of concern when I ordered the thing. I thought glass and Royal Mail don't mix well but my fears were unfounded as it arrived safe and well. Fitting instructions were simple and easy and it took me about 15 minutes to do it. Overall the mirror is robust and looks well made and after having been on my trailer and exposed to the most testing of Scottish weather four months later it still looks as good as new.
It took me probably about four trips out with my trailer to fully get the hang of using it properly and now I manage to hitch on first go almost every time. My early days attempts were thwarted by my speed and impatience. I think that I thought the mirror was some form of divine intervention and my trailer would move itself to my car and hitch on, thus this meant I did not need to concentrate. For me the other big durrrr moment was realising that there was no need for me to keep twisting in my drivers seat to look out of the back window when hitching on, yes you can simply sit facing looking forward and look in your rear view mirror and perform the reversing! I know it sounds like a blonde moment and I am blonde and it was for me but yes it really does work!
I have to say the mirror has been a bonus to me and well worth the £23 I paid for mine last September and I do wonder why I didn't fit one sooner.
I hope readers find my experience of use and will be happy to answer any questions anyone may have on using a Hitching Mirror and are hesitant about buying one.
Happy New Year from Scotland on yet another windy and wet day!
