Who do you all use for breakdown cover while towing your horse?

I don't believe my current breakdown cover, covers me for the trailer nor recovery of the horse. The breakdown cover is through the Ford dealer as the car was bought new so you get covered for the 1st year, they use The AA. Can I just get this extended?

But the other thing is the trailer is not actually mine. It is only a hired trailer each time we go out. The hire company does not cover us for break down. Would i need to declare this to the break down company when i get cover? Or will that effect any cover i get?

Thanks :)

Dont know for definite as every company will be different but as I understand it your trailer is probably covered in your breakdown recovery. However it is at the discretion of the recovery driver as to whether they will tow an animal in the trailer, and in most cases I would imagine not. I dont think it makes a difference if the trailer does not belong to you. I just called my breakdown recovery company and asked.

You can get specific recovery for trailers/horse boxes, you can just google to find companies for your area.

RAC offerc specific recovery as an add on to ordinary breakdown as I imagine others do too.

Im with Greenflag and they cover my trailer (they’ve been out twice when my jockey wheel failed) … but that’s my own trailer and they don’t cover livestock. I know with E&L you can either insure your own or a hired trailer (check out their website). I’m sure there is a company that for about £50 per year they recover the animal should you get stuck - cant remember the name though? x
