Absolutely no chance, a mini shetland maybe. You'd need min of a 2L engine and something bigger than that

back in the good old days.....my farther used to tow a bramber stroller trailer with a 1300cc escort we once took a pony from brum to bristol with it....so long ago lol i dont think the M5 was even built...... but i think you might have trouble now as laws have changed and the trailer with horseor pony on would be heavy than the car so i guess the answer to your question would be no

I have a 2 litre turbo diesel nissan primera and only take 1 14.2 in a very light pony trailer - 650 k and this is a bigger car than the punto and capable of 1300 k safe towing.

Whilst we tow fine, if Chancer grows more than 550 k in weight I am going to have to change my vehicle. I also have to consider getting off wet fields so have to bear in mind the venues I attend.

I would prefer a 4 x 4, but have to do 150 miles a week minimum in my car which would not be practical which is why I had to sell my very old landrover.

My mum used to tow with a 1.8 estate car, towing my 14.1 cob and a very light trailer. Not sure how safe it was though! It was ok as long as we didn't meet a hill! I'm not sure if a punto would tow, a little small lol

Definately not - its not just how large the engine size is but also about the weight of the tow vehicle. The combined weight of horse and trailer should never be more than 85% of the tow vehicles weight. Most medium size cars would not be heavy enough to meet with this calculation.

I was in a bad accident a few years ago caused by my OH of the time trying to tow a heavy cattle trailer, complete with three heifers, with a 2L BMW 3 series.

The weight was too heavy for the car... the trailer started to weave... the car wasn't heavy enough to pull the trailer out of the weave, the trailer eventually tried to over take the car, we jackknifed and ended up suspended over a crushed wall and 10 foot drop with rush hour traffic dodging to avoid us. Not to be recommended.

The heifers however were fine (though on their way to market so their fate was sealed anyway) but the BMW was banana shaped and ended up in a car crusher.
