I'm after recommendations please, what do people prefer, the Bateson horse trailers or the Cheval Liberte?
A friend has a Bateson Deauville which I really like but I have heard good things about the Cheval Liberte as well?
Very undecided!

I don't have much experience of batesons- unfortunately only bad memories of a friend's horses foot going through the floor- not batesons fault but the memory is still there.
But..
I LOVE MY CHEVAL.
It is so light and easy to manoeuvre and it is very airy and light inside.
Only problem I could see people having with them is the full partition does not remove like the ifor

I have a Bateson Ascot and it is a lovely trailer. I had one a few years ago before I got the lorry I sold earlier in the year, really liked it so that is why I got another when I sold the lorry. The Ascot is like the Deauville but has a tack locker at the front. It is light and airy and the partition is easily removable (I travel my horse without it now as he only has one eye and didn't like going into the narrow space).

I had an older CL (2003 ?) and it never let me down but I prefer my Bateson deauville. I like the ‘plastic’ floor and removable mats. I also travel my horse with a full width breech bar.
I wish I’d bought the ascot but can’t really justify the cost of replacing it!

How is yours doing in the heat AandK (I think you had a thread about travelling in the heat?) mine doesn’t get too hot though it may be hotter where you are.

I would recommend a Bateson all day long. Just sold my much loved Ascot. Fantastic to tow, quiet, light for the size and the horse loved it. Well put together with no rattles. It was fantastic and I cried when it went!

I owned the bateson Derby (pony/rear unload one), I currently own the mare and foal cheval liberte. I love both of them. Obviously both small types but SO easy to manoeuvre, hitch up, push around if you don't fancy reversing. Horse like them, never got either of them too hot. They both keep their value very well. The bit I like on my CL is that the netting over the back pulls it'self up automatically so you don't have to roll it up and secure it.

In regards to what Lintel said about removable partition. I would always go with a removable partition.

No experience of CL, but I always feel the need to add on these threads that the Bateson parts department has always been really helpful whenever I've needed new bolts, mud guards or other parts, even for my 20 year old Deauville.

Another with a Bateson Deauville that's always been brilliant. Bateson customer service is also very good if you need any parts :).
The only downside is that I don't use the saddle rack at the front as it's not properly enclosed - I was worried about my horse getting herself tangled up in the rack when unloading so I removed it. Because of this I'd go for an Ascot if I was buying again but, like a previous poster said, I can't justify selling mine for such a small upgrade.

I haven't posted about traveling in the heat. However, I took my horse out in it last weekend late morning/lunchtime and he traveled well, didn't sweat up at all. It is a good trailer as all white, so reflects heat well.

Ah sorry I’ve mixed up user names!

I have got a CL and love it! It's a single and my mum claims she doesn't even notice it's on the back when she's driving. I love the fact it has an aliminium floor and have found it super easy to clean. It also has very good suspension which is handy if you have a lot of potholes!

I've got a Bateson Ascot, it's fantastic even at nearly 20 years old. Cool in summer. Bateson parts department are also excellent.

I'd have another.

Another owner of the mare and foal, Cheval liberte. I love it, suspension is brilliant and you barely know you are towing anything. The choice as to how you open the doors is super handy especially when using trailer for bad loaders and for buying hay/helping friends move house and whatever else you may need to do.
