Horse tranquilisers? To calm ex race horse?
10 months ago I bought an ex racehorse after lots of work I got her to the point that I could take her out for rides in the forest and she was always excited but I could control her.
She then damaged her fetlock in the Field and had 6 months off work. Now she has gone back to being as bad as she was when I bought her- so over excitable all she wants to do is bolt and she is unsafe to ride.
I now have a new job and can only ride once a week so I don't have time to give her the work she needs to get her to calm down.
She is on a very low energy, high fibre diet and is turned out for 12 hours a day in a huge Field with 7 other horses.
I worry about her falling into the wrong hands if I sell her. She is very pretty but is highly strung and gets stressed very easily.
I haven't got anyone who is willing to ride her for me. What sedatives can I give her before I ride to take away her excessively silly behaviour? I believe that sedatives will help break the vicious cycle of her behaviour, if she is calm she will concentrate, not get stressed then I can get into a routine of going out for a calm hack.
