I've got a couple of ponies to ride for the summer (hairy cobs) and myself and a few friends are looking to attend some fun rides over the rest of the summer, totalling 4 horses. The problem is, none of us are legally allowed to tow, so using two trailers is out of the question (annoyingly we actually have use of trailers, but it'd be rude to ask the owners to take us and wait when we're using their horses for our own amusement) so..

Has anyone any experiences of hiring a 4+ horsebox with driver for the day/few hours, and what sort of cost was it? Or does anyone have a better solution (no, we can't hack there! :D)?

There is a 7.5t near us (se england) that is availaible for hire - think its £150 a day and the hire lasts from 8pm to 8pm. They need to see your license as some people don't have the correct one (think its before 97) . They do seem to be quite few and far between nowadays.

We sometimes hire out 4 horsebox (with driver) and it costs about £30 per horse when going to shows, sponsored rides etc, hope that helps :D

Thanks Hutchie - I was worried it would work out loads more than that, so glad to have got some reassurance! They're B*****y difficult to find though! lol

Look on www.findhorsetransport.org

there are some self drive 7.5t lorries there

Trouble is 4 neds and 7.5t to stay under the required weight is RARE! Plus also not everyone has the licence to drive it.

Sometimes it is better to hire a transporter with a HGV lorry and split the costs between the 4 of you!

Failing that hire 2x 3.5t lorries-but again watch the weight!

Good luck

If none of you can tow then none of you will be able to drive a truck over 3.5 ton either unless one of you has a LGV or part C licence and has done the extra test and medical

Hence why in my first post I mentioned needing a driver :) but struggling to find any with driver over 3.5t around here! Requested some quotes online so fingers crossed!
