Horse transport- How much?

How much is it in your area to get horse transport to a show?

Say a local show, 10/15 miles away for a few hours...

Are you talking about trailers or lorries? The cheapest trailer hire I've found is £30 for a weekend. And if you're talking about lorries, then are you going to drive it or do you want a driver?

I have no 4X4 so lorry and it comes with a driver- purely because i cannot find any that are self drive!

Have just been quoted £60 to go a few miles hireing somone driving 4x4 and trailer to go to a local show. I think he has a minimum charge of about £50 and does offer a very professional service. We have used him several times for shows and he does'nt charge a standing time (which can be ages for showing). How ever we have decided that the costs are now too high and cancelled any future bookings. I'm not blaming him, the costs must be rocketing to run a business like that and I fear he may struggle to keep bookings.

I hire a lady with a lorry and she charges an amount per mile but also £15 per hour waiting time. If you're doing an ODE and things are delayed (like always!), you end up paying through the roof

That's why I can only get my boy out once a month or so because it costs so much to hire.

She is brilliant though and a fantastic extra pair of hands... just quite expensive!

I'd expect to pay £100 plus for my usual transporter, if he was to get me there and back regardless of whether he was going to wait or not. I had to take a horse to the vets about 7 miles away and he took me there, waited for about 1/2 hour and then brought me home. That was £100 so I think it would cost quite a bit with the guy I use.

I've used another transporter who charged £50 for a 6 mile one way trip as well, which is about normal for round here...

I work at a riding school and I've booked a wagon with driver for two trips in the summer.

10 mile trip for the day £120
20 mile trip for the day £140

He was very apologetic at the prices but said he had to put prices up because of the cost of diesel. He's very helpful and great with the kids so I don't mind paying. I don't think he's particularly expensive, he's probably about the same as the others in the area.
