How long can a horse stay in the box,think of buying horse and is need ing to go to scottish islands ten hour ferry journey so if horse has to travel a few hours to get to the port so this could limit where i cab buy from.

as long as you want really, as long as they have plently of water etc.
We get them come in from holland and germany etc and have been on the box 12 hours or more sometimes

Horses can only stay on lorries for a maximum of 24 hours as long as they have been given hay and water every 8 hours.
There are great risks on keeping horses on lorries for a long time-shipping fever being one!
The new rules for transport are coming in on 5th January 2007-this includes inspection of lorries.
