Hi I am buying a pony and using a well known transporter to move her. I have read their small print which says I have to insure her for the journey-for liability in case she damages the vehicle etc. Its quite a long way and she is a youngster.

Anyone got any suggestions? Would my BHS Gold cover it? Or do I need to take out a separate policy?

Thanks for any help.

you insure your own horse as you would normally, the transporter, if reputable should have public and legal liability and if the vehicle fit for purpose should not be breakable. any wear and tear should be covered in the price you pay, thats why transporters dont just charge diesel money!

Your normal horse insurance policy will cover this as Third Party damage not only to their vehicle but should your horse happen to 'get loose on a public road' and cause havoc as well as injure a member of their staff.

You are liable for your horse at all times and therefore need to be insured for this.

Double check the Gold Membership fine print and ensure you are covered for this but if in doubt your normal horse insurance will cover you.
