Just passed my trailer test ( yay) and have been trekking about the norfolk country side .. however i am finding it hard to relax and put my foot down ( hate it when lorries rattle past ) as i get worried about my boy bobbing about in the trailer in the back!! This drives partner mad as we take hours to get any where :) any one else guilty would love to prove to him that i am not the only one :) ? !

Bye the way horse is chilled ..its me that is the bad traveler lol ! x

Ah tell your partner it could be worse, I am still too chicken to tow so my partner has to do the towing, any time he reaches over 30 I start hyperventilating and pressing an imaginary break with my foot :D He is coming round to my way of thinking

I didn't think I was a nervous horse trailer driver but it turns out I am, give me my dad's racing car + trailer and I will wizz around corners/roundabouts for fun my precious horse is different. I purchased cctv for the trailer as i'm always afraid he could be on the floor, hanging upside down etc etc. I can now see that he is standing and not bothered with my speed, cornering, lorries wizzying past, being stopped at traffic lights etc. I really would recommend it, I broke out into a huge grin when I realised my horse was safe and my driving was better now that I had cctv, I must have looked a right muppet driving along!

hmm cctv does sound like a good idea..can i ask if it was expensive to install and where did u get if from?
Will save me from jumping out every 5 mins to make sure he is ok lol!! :D

if you've only just passed your test I wouldn't worry too much. I was the same for a while, and I still dread getting somewhere and not being able to turn around, but you will get used to the idea.

and besides, what does it matter if it takes you ages to get somewhere if you get there safely?!

Don't worry about it - take your time. You have as much right to be on the road as any other road users. I am a nervous wreck driving my horsebox - my knuckles are glued to the wheel and I have backache from being so tense whenever we get anywhere, but I am slowly getting better due to having a really good friend who comes nearly everywhere with me and talks none stop about anything but driving, so I don't have as much time to worry about it. But whatever you do, don't drive faster than you feel you are able.

Thank you , you have made me feel better..partners a farmer and used to driving live stock about but just does not understand that having your horse on board is a bit different :) think hes feeling guilty now hes reading over my shoulder !!

I hate it when lorrys pull so close behind your tailer ...people pull out in front of you ..getting honked on round abouts for pulling out carefuly and they are going too fast so therefore my fault...over taking you on blind bends...not moving over at junctions ..getting the finger for just being careful ! ..scary :( .... guess i need to grow some balls :) never sworn so much in all my life !!

Ignore the traffic behind you, (easier said than done) - if it is desperate to get past, it will do and if it chooses to do it on a blind bend, then more fool them. Sometimes, if I notice a huge stream of traffic building up behind me, I wait for a straight section of road and then put my indicator on to pull over to the left and slow right down - then they can get past you and I usually get a "Thank you" wave. But if no straight areas, then just keep going as you are. You have paid your road tax, you have every right to be there! And if they use the finger to you, you use two back to them! x

Im the same :(. I will happily tow a trailer or drive a wagon but put my horse in and Im a different person. I think I hold my breath the whole journey, so much I sold my wagon a couple of months ago with the excuse I wasnt using it enough. Guess what I now want another and Im determined to conquer my fear :D:D
