Hi,
I have a 15 or 16 year old horse at a riding stable. He spends a lot of time in his stable. I was wondering what treats/toys would be good to entertain him.
Thanks

THe snackaballs are really good, you can fill with high fibre pony nuts, or you could get some swede and make a hole through the middle and tie rope through it and suspend it from the ceiling. Its no good suspended from your stable door/bars because he will just push it against the surface. Apples are good for bobbing if they float in water. A salt lick can keep them occupied for a while, or a bit of rag or old towel tied onto your stable bars. You can dig up a patch of grass with the soil attached as they like nibblling on that. Is there any gorse growing by you? Horses love eating gorse branches or picking on bark. They like having the radio on in the stable (a small radio hidden away from their teeth!) and left on a classical music station or talk show. THe lick its are always popular and they now sell bricks made of hay and fibre which you can put in tiny nets especially bought for this purpose. A molasses type lick that come in a block are good, but you might be irritated by sticky black mess over your clothes when your horse walks towards you sporting a molassed moustache! :)

Lots of small hay nets hung around the stable keep a horse interested as do lots of small meals spread throughout the day. You can hide carrots or slices of apples in his haynet for him, or mix the nets with a little haylage and either 'double bag' them so they last longer or use small holed haylage nets.
