QUOTE OFF A WEBSITE 'Warning Signs of An Over-Exercised Horse are patchy Sweating- sweating more heavily in certain places of his body and hardly any in others. If you touch a horse like this and it feels cold and clammy, hes overtaxed.
Loss of Appetite- a horse that has no interest in food is a rare and not to be confused with normal. Clumsy Movement- if he stumbles around after a workout like hes somewhat disoriented, that should raise some red flags too. '
In my humble opinion it would depend on the horse, type, build, endurance levels, type of workload, how balanced the rider is, how the horse is shod, whether the horse moves normally, - and a billion other things as well. I think it would be hard to give a definitive answer to that one.
Thanks for your response - maybe I wasn't too clear. What I meant to ask was what is the minimum amount of exercise and turnout a horse which is settled in their work requires just to 'tick over'. My yard has limited turnout so I am seeking opinions to make sure that my horse has enough exercise
