I am totally and utterly close to breaking point with my loan mare, to the point where I am considering sending her back to her owners.
She is perfect in every way but she just destroys fencing. Wooden post rail – smashes through it.
Electric – again rips it to shreds. I am tired of mending fences twice a day every day in day out.
She is being fed, and there’s plenty of grass, she isn’t alone in the field so there is no reason at all. It doesn’t matter if we put her and her buddies in different fields the outcome is just the same.
We do not have mains on our yard so the electric is the strongest we can have and its getting so expensive keep having to replace wood for the other fences. It is beginning to course problems with the couple whom I share the yard with now too, as they are mending the fencing when I’m at work. I can’t move her as per condition of her loan, has anyone got any ideas at all how to stop to or prevent this? As I am well and truly close to breaking point with her.

Firstly check to make sure you have OVER 6000 volts in your fence line right to the end. The only way to do this is with a proper tester. If you don't have that then you are barking up a tree.
I don't think extra lines will make much difference but the line you have in must be at the same level as the horse's nose when it is stretching it out to test something - make it easy for her.
A very effective tip for difficult to control animals is to bait the fence line. Apply some treacle, syrup or neat apple cordial to some cotton wool and tie it to the fence line with bits of wire. By attaching suitable bait to the fence animals are encouraged to investigate the wires with their nose and tongue that are packed with sensitive nerve endings so the animal will receive a shock that really re-enforces the psychological imprint of the fence.

my old boy would actually stand on the electric fence with shoes on and walk casually over it, he was a nightmare! previous owner said nothing to this effect. my yard owner was also a very close friend and i got a callone day to say she was sitting in his field with him as he had by then progressed to taking a shoe of with the other fencing! i ended up having to move him to another yard with huge fields and never had a bit of bother. maybe not the answer you were looking for x hope u get it sorted x
