My horse is due her Vac's on Friday, but i have a BE comp on the Saturday should i bring it forward say Tuesday or will it be ok to do it on thursday. I know its best to give them a day off after it, but i don't know how long after their jabs they can feel not right if any at all. Any advice anybody.

I just read in a competition horse care book yesterday not to compete or do strenuous work for up to a week after the vac. Can you move it just to the Monday after the competition?

If you go over time, by as little as a day, you will find that you will have to start the vacs all over again, a vet will not fiddle the date on the passport. (One did & was struck off although he has since been reinstated)

Shouldn't your vaccinations be up to date for competitions?

Phone the vet & get them out to do it now....why not?

Ok so next question i should be back from my comp about dinner time on the saturday, could i take her to have her jabs in the afternoon or is this a no no ? i forgot to say she is due saturday which is why is has to be done some time this week.

I would not, and that is also if you vet would do a routine vac on Easter Saturday?

Get them done today?

My horse had his vacs on a thursday and was still not himself on the saturday morning. Heart, lungs, vital signs, etc were all fine but on the Thursday evening he could barely move and even refused his dinner. By Friday morning he was a bit better, just a little quiet. Saturday he had a swelling in the muscle in his chest where the vaccinate had been put in. He was worked on the Sunday and was fine. He went out in the field on all days. Apparently, reactions like his only happen to about 5% of horses, but because it was a newer vaccine than previously, it did leave him low for a day or so
