Has anybody got any experience of a horse which comes out in scabs when 'stressed'?

Last year, when Star had her eye removed, she developed 'scabby armpits'. The skin thickened, and the hair came away with the scabby bits.
I scrubbed them with Hibiscrub and put Fungatrol ointment on. The general scabbiness cleared up and I thought nothing more of it.

Star has developed another scabby patch behind the knee with the ligament damage (Hence the box rest) and I've been doing the hibiscrub/Fungatrol routine again.
Silver, raised patches appeared in her ear (quite visible on a black ear). As a trial, I daubed them with Fungatrol and they are no longer silver or raised. Now pink and flat. (I'm wondering if they will remain depigmented and hairless.)

When she is functioning 100% on all cylinders and well, there is no scabbiness, but when she in on box rest for something, the scabbiness appears.

Apart from this being a testament to the healing powers of Fungatrol ointment, Is it possible that she has a horse version of cold-sores?
