Horse very good behind!

I have the same problem with mine!

for example this jump is 120cm, he's imagining 160+ :p

the thing i've found most important to *try* and stop him doing this is the canter. it has to be a nice bouncy canter but he can go on the forehand and he's more likely to do something like that when he's leaning on the bit and/or rushing (or going too slowly). sorry, not much help am i :o but to me the canter is the key

would be keen on seeing what others think though :)

I dont want to stop him doing it ;) I want his front as sharp though! Hes a very scopey horse but sometimes will have a fence in front!

I am keen for more ways to improve his front end, hes a bit weird as hes more careful if hes going a bit quicker rather than having an ideal canter! Grids are trying to get him sharper in front and spend a little more time thinking :)

Your horse looks great BTW!

ah OK, mine is always a bit lazier in front but we've found that putting odd/scary things underneath really helps him such as *whispers* tarpaulin  or flowers and cones, this makes him pick up more and then when we try him at simple jumps he picks up more anyway as he was doing this previously with the scarier jumps (if you get what i'm saying) :)

haha thanks, he's great apart from when he does it in the middle of a course at a crucial turn and you suddenly find your self with reins at the buckle and facing the floor

We were jumping tarpaulin the other day ;) Mines a ****** for getting his head up which doesnt help him in front as he then doesnt use his back and sometimes cant see the fence!!!

Doing some exercises in *dreaded* draw reins, to get him to stretch down low and not snatch upwards. Will do lots of low canter over poles and get him using his back.

He will also have a physio pampering to make sure hes not sore anywhere (before anyone recommends that, I am on it ;) )

Grids of low very wide oxers can help, it takes them a little longer to jump so it can help get the front snapping a bit more, it is the opposite of the high x poles but can work well if the horse needs time to think and is inclined to invert.

I like this! Mine has just gone 5, so plenty of time for the front to catch up!

She is going to be a cracker as she get older, Not had her long so had her checked out Teeth, back etc as she has bred a foal ( god knows why) At the moment she is weak behind so have started doing raised troting pole's, long reining and lots of hill work....

She has a bright future ahead of her she is just to good to waste and mess up she is a cracker.. :D

Spread fences with a front rail much lower than the back. Also keep distances easy until he is confident in grids
